In the land of Snakes

Twenty six days ago and three hundred fifty kilometers north I Moon I reached Aldona late in the night. It was Purnima, the full moon of Holi. Vishwan was away, gone to a border village, tsar. A place somewhere in the middle of the jungle at the border of Goa and Maharashtra. But I had no idea of that then, I was waiting. I sat downstairs at the bar. Grandmother was pouring feny to a local. She told me about Vishwan smoking too much. The room was lit with two cyan bulbs. He arrived. We kept my backpack at his place. He lit his cigarette. We sat. His hair had grown and white; beard thickened and black. Soon, we were off, feeling the dense wind of the leaving winter, scooting through the western ghats in the night going towards the moon. We entered the fair. Vishwan parked the vehicle somewhere outside and we started walking away from the lights towards the jungle. It was late. But it wasn’t dark. The night seemed to have dissolved with …

Here or There

Those are golden days when in you a confusion appears. Of paths. Two. Not same but similar. You are free to go on either. You have time and you have the means. Both filled with just your kind of memory pleasures. You can even smell that fragrance of the past through your memory. To both the destinations journey is similar. Similar. Similar! Can a journey to similar sounding places be similar? It will be of highest essence to learn which road will take you closest to your end. Unless you haven’t seen your end and lived it inside you several times before, you might only reach half way and feel satisfied. Because it is only you who will determine it for yourself, others will take part, some will show the way. Many shall distract. The end determines the journey more if not as much the process itself.

Learn to give

Dawn 12 1:14 AM New Delhi I am still struggling to write daily. Even though intentions seem strong but after continuing for four days to five I have seen missing one. School is doing well and in these last four months that I have happened to stay at one place, after many years I learnt about a lot about my own school. Setting up a studio and taking classes, understanding there world and spending crucial time with them on their important days has been enriching. Today I and mother went to the printers and designed a report card. She had been wanting to change the way a report card looks. It has to be playful for smaller children, so we went. I could find some really nice themes sitting with the designer. I will share it soon. – I ask myself a question by the end of everyday. What did I learn today? And many a times I fail to get an answer. There are so many things that one does, little by little. And …

Vipassna in the Jungle

To tell you, I had lost this post a long time ago. Digital world has its own miracles, I don’t know how it showed up again. And now when it has. I will try to re-write it, after so many years, this experience that still lingers somewhere in my head. This experience kept becoming solid long after it passed by me. My understanding of time, physical space and eye did see a change. I couldn’t have gathered it while it was happening. Even though it became adventurous but what Vipassana said, accumulated deeper. I wrote this on 1ST February 2007. It sure was a tender age and I will keep it the way it was then. Well, I don’t know why and how it happens as it did yesterday evening. I wanted to write about my experience at vipassna. All about what I and udi did in last five days of our stay. Oh! No… Nights.   It was in a far-off village outside Delhi. There were the Aravallis, making their presence felt …

MUND NADI

This bad sketch was made a week ago together on very long bus rides after entering back to Indian Bihar in Raxaul from Nepall Bihar Birganj to Sugauli. A 10 hour lazy train from sugauli to gorakhpur at night. Some parts in a bus from Gorakhpur to Faizabad, from there to Kesarbagh in Lucknow and then 16 hour bus ride where shukla jee was the driver and himself he was the conductor. He made sure all the passengers eat the best samosa with kacche aam ki chatni, Kachaori poori Sabzi, chai, Petha, oranges on various stops, though he didn’t care much where we eat our food. On a Sunday he recited Hanuman Katha and Chalisa twenty times half an hour long- less in afternoon most in the night so as no body sleeps and if they do Ram and Hanuman should always be around them. On a two week journey to Nepal starting from not so interesting Pokhra to Muglin and the beautiful Manakaamna temple and later all seven days given to Gadhimai mela where …

RIVER OF HEADS

Two sparrows came into my room through the mirror. It was placed facing the big window. I woke up in Kalliya, Nepal. I had learnt about Gadhimai mela through a friend a month ago. Imagining about it in Delhi It will be one month later; one morning that I will realize that a festival of this magnitude still exists. It was said that around four lac animals were culled together out in the open on the first day as an offering to the goddess five years ago. It has come again. Many countries have already asked the Nepal government to stop the killings. India banned animals coming from its country crossing over to Nepal- a big move as the majority of people coming to the fair come from Bihar, India. Under severe international pressure I will hope all along that something might happen on the day and killings will not take place this time. I will admit that it was eerily exciting. And that excitement took a leap a week ago when in a matter …
